Gearing up for the Artisans Bazaar at the Phoenixville Firebird Festival. This final week beforehand, I'm in the process of cranking out bird wands!

If you would like to march in the parade with the flock of birds that we made at the workshop, and you don't have one, you can stop by my booth and get one! Then go join the flock across the street from The Children's Plaza by 7:25 on Saturday Dec. 10th. The birds will be ceremoniously welcomed into the parade as it passes by on the way to the bird site.

Here are a few photos of some Easter themed necklaces I made for my boyfriend's three nieces. I had a hand full of adorable little vintage bunny rabbit charms in my stash so I decided to put them to good use. I adorned the wee bunnies with wasabi hued Czech glass flowers, fuchsia candy jade faceted rounds, and ivory seed pearls. I love them and secretly want one for myself... good thing I have one more bunny charm! :)

On New Years Day, I was in the Mummer's parade and 2 friends of mine drove up from DC to check it out. We wandered down to 2 street for the BIG after party....and well, I don't know if this is a goose or a flamingo or a swan? lol....but we saw this lawn ornament in someone's yard and we just had to swipe it! After I got it home, I bedazzled it a few weeks later. =D hee hee!

Hello and Happy New Year!

I wanted to share a few photos of a garment I completed this past week. The pattern is the Birthday Party Dress by Oliver + S. The body fabric is Laura Gunn's Poppy Bouquet in Gray and the accent is Kaffe Fassett's Shot Cotton in Terra Cotta. The fabric, thread and the pattern were purchased at Spool Sewing and the buttons were purchased at their sister store, Loop.

I'm very happy with the outcome (especially since I started this in September!). I've shared more info and photos on my blog if you are interested.

Our latest creation is the Pee Pee Tee Pee. It's a small tent that protects you frm sprinkles during diaper changes. If your baby boy happens to go while your changing him, the tee pee catches it, and it stays in one place. Once soiled, throw it in the wash and use it over and over again.

We used a teddy bear to get our point across :-)

This past Saturday I took a 1-day workshop class on Precious Metal Clay (PMC) at University of the Arts. This stuff is awesome- it's basically clay with silver particles in it, and when you fire it in a kiln the clay goes away and leaves 99% pure silver behind. You can form it and put textures in it and add glass and stones. I think I'm in love with it and hope to explore it more. I made these two pendants that I love, all in this one class!

Howl-o-ween Scarf

A festive scarf for the newest member of our little family- our beagle, Heidi. I had no desire to dress my little one up in an uncomfortable costume for her first Halloween with us, but I did think she needed something to show the spirit of the holiday.

This scarf/bandana was a snap to make, and best of all, I was able to utilize my stash. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out but I do wish I had made it to fit over her collar. She didn't seem to mind this new accessory, but I do think she wore it to humor me. (According to my boyfriend, at one point when I wasn't looking she attempted to eat it.)

I'm thinking a turkey-themed (fit over the collar) scarf is in store in a couple of weeks. :)

Jewelry for an autumn wedding

I recently had the opportunity to create custom jewelry for a friend's bridal party to be worn in her autumn wedding. It was a very fun project as I was free to create whatever I thought would look nice on her ladies. I chose a palette of ivory, chocolate and citrine to compliment the brown, ivory and mango they would be wearing on the day of her early October wedding.

Each of the six matching necklaces were composed of yellow citrine faceted briolettes and ivory and chocolate brown freshwater pearls. Each briolette is wire wrapped in 14 k gold filled fine wire. The trio is accented with 24 k Bali gold vermeil headpins and suspended from a delicate 14 k gold filled chain.

The earrings feature a citrine teardrop and a cluster of ivory freshwater pearls hanging beneath gold vermeil French earwires.

I am so pleased with how the pieces turned out. The style is so different from anything that I've ever done, and I think that I would like to try other pieces using similar materials. The bride was pleased too, and said they brought the ensembles together nicely.

Jeanne inspired me to post the collaborative bra that my sister and I made for the BRAvo exhibit! Ours is more decorative than wearable. My sister first added all the flowers and ribbons, and then I added the beads and keys and clock parts. It is called "Strapless in the Garden of Time" and is dedicated to our aunt Nancy who died in 2006 of cancer.

Hello all. I thought I'd share a few photos of what I've been working on as of late.

A few sets of polymer clay beads basking in the sun. Each bead has been sanded with 400 and 800-grit sandpaper, glazed three times and now they are ready to be strung. I'm awaiting a few more components but hope to begin the necklace construction by the weekend.

These darling feather wings were a custom order for a photographer in Canada. I had an absolute blast painting all the feathers to look like a real blue jay. You'd never guess it, but all of the feathers started out powder blue.

I've been so focused on finishing jewelry and collages for sale lately for a rash of summer shows, but I just have one more show lined up. So I'm working on something just for fun and not for sale. It's a nice change of pace- I think it's important not to get too wrapped up in making things I think people will want to buy! This is a little collage book (a lot of the materials are being cannibalized from my failed attempt at a Daily Sketchbook Project. I got annoyed at how quickly that book filled up and became unwieldy, so this new one is an accordion book which is more expandable.

I've had great luck with this design because I can make it in any color with any kind of stone or ceramic or glass bead and it looks wonderful. In this case I used wavy snowflake obsidian squares with holes cut on the diagonal which mimics the asymmetry of the design itself. The dangle is a zuni bear charm of the same snowflake obsidian. This one is an eyecatcher.

Hello there. I thought I'd share a necklace that I made this past Saturday. This is the first piece of jewelry that I have made in a long, long while and it felt really good to brush the dust off my beading supplies. My typical work includes my own handmade polymer clay beads and a mixture of other media, such as wire or stones.

This one is composed of dyed Green Quartz, Red Jasper faceted briolettes and Miyuki Delica seed beads. I'm not happy with the clasp- it's an old one that I used for convenience so that I could wear the piece that evening. I intend to replace it with a handmade clasp of hammered sterling silver or copper wire.

I look forward to contributing to Philly Makes!

I have a wiener dog who LOVES walks no matter the temperature outside. I never seem to find coats that fit him properly because he doesn't exactly look like other dogs :) So this weekend, Floyd got a fancy new coat! This coat turned out way cuter than I thought it would and was super quick to make too, with a home decor fabric exterior and a nice warm flannel lining. Unfortunately, I did a bad job of measuring and it barely fits around his giant chest... Oh well jacket #2 should be complete tonight - he looks excited right??

Silver Tree Ring

I (mostly) finished my Silver Tree Ring! Much to my relief, it came out pretty much as I was imagining it. I still have some minor filing, sanding, and polishing to do, but I couldn't wait to share it! The upper left photo is after I started wrapping the tree branches around but before I sawed off the extra bits and soldered the branches to the main part.

Silver tree ring

Here's my second project from the Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing class I'm taking at University of the Arts- a silver ring. I've finished sawing the shape out and have a bit more filing and polishing to do, and then it will be wrapped around. The oval part goes on top of the finger and the tree bits wrap around over top of that. I'll post another picture when it's finished! Hopefully it'll turn out as planned- I must have made fifteen different paper mockups to figure out the design! Plus the sawing part took forever- I'm still not very good at sawing, and I cut my fingers twice trying to saw out all those little branches. I now have the utmost respect for jewelers who make tiny things that are hand-sawed!

So this is more of a question for everybody on something I want to make. Can anyone make glass beads from found glass. I love to walk along the Wissahickon Creek. I often collect glass by the creek and would like to have some beach glass looking beads made to make a few bracelets. I found a few people on Etsy who can do it but, none in Philadelphia.

My New Sewing Studio!

I have finally gotten around to taking pictures of my new studio/office space. I am so happy to now have a cutting table that I can stand up and cut my fabrics out. So much more comfortable and efficient than cutting on the floor! I put in a new shelving unit to better organize my fabrics and be able to browse them better. This definitely needs a better photo to do it justice - but this has been a crazy week/month so far. Here's a little girl dress I made for a friend's baby shower later this month. The straps come over and attach with buttons so it can work for summer with nothing underneath or winter with a long-sleeve onesie under. It came out even cuter than I hoped, mainly because of the adorable fabric! And this thing was SOOOOO easy to make. I love starting and finishing a project in a few short hours.
And seriously, how adorable is little girl clothing??

I recently rebuilt my entire sewing studio (I'll upload some photos soon). My old room was so unproductive and not easy to get around. Soooo...now that I have my new special place I have been WAY more productive and excited about getting to work. These little clutches have been my latest focus. They all have two pockets/card slots inside and most are either detailed with vintage lace or have been made with vintage fabrics. You can see more in my shop.

I hope everyone knows that the Plymouth Whitemarsh show got postponed until this Saturday... I KNOW everyone wants to get out of their house after this crazy snowpocolypse... These are some things you can expect hanging around my table (besides my boyfriend) :)

Perhaps a leather flower and leather feather headband or hairclip would tickle your fancy?

If not, try a jersey knit "Ruffler" scarf! I've starting making them in lighter weight fabric for the spring and summer months (Apparently they are supposed to be coming soon)

There are also these cool embroidered pieces I made on my machine on duppioni silk, then cut out to make appliques... Lots of layer for instant fun hair facinators!!

I'm taking a class at University of the Arts in Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing! I already make a lot of jewelry, but it mostly involves simple gluing, beading, and wiring techniques. I wanted to learn some proper metalsmithing skills too, and this class seems like it's going to be perfect. Here's a pendant I'm working on- it's going to be two layers of brass soldered together, with one of the layers oxidized. I'm still not very good at sawing metal so my lines are kind of wavery, but that's ok since I'm going for a really organic look anyway! (You can see a computer printout towards the top of the photo of my design for the pendant).

When I'm finished with this project, it will be a set of 2 funky wine goblets. I'm embellishing the glasses with these cute glass marbles and then giving them to a friend as a gift. =)

Hello Friends,

I've been so busy with the WrapADoodle, the swaddle baby blanket I invented. Word recently came from the US Patent and Trademark Office that my utility patent was approved!

I am bound and determined to keep them being made in the USA, preferably in Pennsylvania. Does anybody know people who do contract sewing? I am also looking for a professional pattern maker experienced in production sewing. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hey all, I'm new to this blog, and I'm very excited to be a part of it! Just wanted to tell everyone to mark their calenders, because Plymouth Whitemarsh high school is having a craft show Feb 6th! It's to benefit their after-prom lock in party (keep the kids off the streets!!) haha.. but anyway, I know fabulous ladies who have done this show before and say it's a pretty cool deal. My boyfriend and I made a variety of pickles, sauces, and chutneys to give as Christmas gifts this year. It was a ton of work but was fun, and I love giving handmade gifts. I also made the labels for the jars.

I've actually been making quite a lot of stuff lately, but decided to share with you my latest project - rehabilitating a dog we got from the Philly SPCA. He's about a 1 year and a half, smart, eager to please, but loves to chase cats so we need to work on that since I have two. He's going to be taking up a lot of my free time until I have to teach again next semester so I thought I'd share some pics of him catching snowballs in his mouth. His name is Roger.
