Big Big Trees

Here's the reason why I've been neglected about posting for the last few weeks. I was away on vacation/band tour with my husband out West and just returned earlier this week. While out there, we camped in the Redwoods in California. Here are some pics from that wonderful experience and you can check out more on my blog - www.melissanannenphotography.blogspot.com

Sketchbook

I have totally re-discovered my sketchbook over the summer. In fact I have re-discovered my own creative self. Since being laid off from my full time job, I have had time to really concentrate on my art. I wasn't sure if I was still an artist or not. That part of me had disappeared for awhile. I knew it was always there, I just needed to let it out. Now that it is out, I don't plan on letting it disappear again. When I find a full time job again, I will work harder on balancing my art and my job.

Accordion Book

This is an accordion book made for an upcoming collaborative project. The paper is the watercolor paper I picked up at the supply swap at Handmade Philly's Artbeat event last month. I keep meaning to get back into doing sewn bindings, but I keep making accordions since they are so perfect for collaborations. It's cool that images can continue from one page to another, and that you can continue onto the back side. It also holds up well to lots of collaged layers being added, since there is no binding it expands well.

I already started drawing in this book. It's an imaginary map drawing. I recently saw the Galileo exhibit at the Franklin Institute, which was so inspirational- all those fantastic old maps and navigation equipment!

Like a Moth to a Flame

This sterling silver chainmaille bracelet was constructed using the butterfly weave, but the shape of the "wings" looks more like a moth to me. The clasp didn't photograph well but it's gorgeous - bright sterling inlaid with a fiery labradorite cabochon.

I made the bracelet for my husband - I gave it to him yesterday as one of his gifts to celebrate our ninth wedding anniversary.

I have a brand new line of handmade chainmaille jewelry coming out for Spring 2010; you can see a preview by checking out my blog.

Good Witch

This is my "Good Witch" Glass. I decided on purple metallic paint for the bottom. You can see the word "Good" through the glass on the other side. The lettering is swarovski crystal and the large bead on the front is a half moon art glass bead. You'll have to come to the event on Sept. 9 to see my other 5 glasses I'll have up for sale. =) Click here for event info: http://philanomaartexpo.eventbrite.com/
