Collaborative Book Project: Women's Caucus for Art

The Women's Caucus for Art organized a collaborative book project, pairing up local artists with high school students. The books will be on display at the Central Branch of the Library this fall. Here's a page from the book I'm working on with Jasmine.

Tree of Life Necklace

I keep feeling that fall is looking over my shoulder and that I better catch the last of summer while I can. So this tree of life pendant, replete with bird, looks like a good way to hold to summer and anticipate fall.

Bless this mess

I guess I'll be lucky if anything gets made in this mess. Time for clean-up. My work space is not usually quite this bad!

A Cool Necklace

When my bead store let me know they were having a one-day trunk show with pearls and jade, I was there like a shot. I like the soft, almost neutral colors of the pearls and they are dramatized by translucent amber glass pendant.

I love coral

When my brother asked me to make a coral necklace as a birthday gift for a friend, I had no idea how much I would fall in love with this material. It's so bright a color that I really didn't understand its depth and substance. Plus it's very light and you can wear a lot of it with little weight. I like it with silver, as in the Hill Tribe silver pendants on these pieces, but I might try it with gold.....maybe.

Worry Fish Necklace

I made this necklace with wooden beads and some turquoise beads a couple of weeks ago and they have flown out of my shop. This one is made with beautiful, unpolished green glass beads to compliment the organic nature of the worry fish beads. You can see a more complete description and more pictures of the piece on my etsy site.

Worry Fish

A few years ago, I saw one of these segmented worry fish charms in a magazine and have looked for them ever since. When Blue Santa Beads (an amazing bead store in Middletown, PA) stocked them last week, I practically danced with delight. You are meant to fiddle with them like worry beads to relieve stress. I've been wearing this necklace every day since I made it and I haven't worried one bit, lol.

My apologies for the lousy photos--clearly I'm not worrying about my photographic skills and I should be.

New Stuff

I didn't think I had a spark of creativity left in me after doing a two-day show last weekend at Flagfest. But opening up a box of stuff I haven't looked at in a while--well, that was all it took.

Talk about easy

I bought a short strand of hurricane square beads and, with the addition of some silver tubes and spacers, there were enough beads to make these two bracelets and a pair of earrings. Stringing the beads on elastic is cheap and fast. I've made a bunch of these in different colors, including a couple in red for Flagfest at the Betsy Ross House next weekend.

Making and making and making

I've been creating new stuff like crazy in anticipation of a couple of upcoming shows, and I feel good about the delight I experience in the making.
I'll try to keep up with this blog because it looks like a great way to keep the imaginative juices flowing.
Wow, there are so many great artists out there!
